2. The Saddle and its Dynamics

 The bone of the alveolar process can be placed under a certain degree of pressure without undergoing any resorption (Fig. 4 a). Only by increasing the pressure will bone be resorbed (Fig. 4 b). If we wish no resorption to occur, despite an increase in pressure, the saddle area must be enlarged (Fig. 4 c).
