9.3 Preparation of Recesses for Dental Rests

However, difficulties can be encountered when a clasp must be placed where no edentulous space is present. The following mistake is often seen: recesses are prepared for the occlusal rests interproximally (Fig. 114), but a path is not provided into and out of the rests for the clasp shoulder (Fig. 115). |

Definite recesses must be provided for the occlusal rests to insure that no wedging of the abutment teeth occurs. A great deal of precision is required in the preparation of a Bonwill or embrasure clasp (Fig. 116). |
