The bone of the alveolar process can be placed under a certain degree of pressure without undergoing any resorption (Fig. 4 a). Only by increasing the pressure will bone be resorbed (Fig. 4 b). If we wish no resorption to occur, despite an increase in pressure, the saddle area must be enlarged (Fig. 4 c). Since neither the extent of force applied nor the stress resistance of the bone can be measured initially, the saddles must be extended as far as possible in every case. (more…) |
